What we publish, and what we do not
We publish information: how a bail hearing usually runs, what a surety does, what a condition means, where a courthouse is. We do not publish legal advice. Nothing on this site tells a particular person what to do in their particular case, and nothing on it creates a lawyer-client relationship. Remandly is not a law firm.
How it is written
The questions come from real people. Our guides and answers start from what callers and texters actually ask, in their own words, and are written to answer those questions plainly.
Every page follows six rules:
- Information, never advice.
- Every fact is sourced and dated.
- Nothing misleading or unverifiable.
- Never held out as a law firm or as a lawyer.
- No outcome, fee or “best” claims.
- Plain, respectful tone.
Before anything is published it passes an automated check that refuses advice, predictions about how a case will turn out, prices, and any wording that presents Remandly as a law firm or a lawyer. Content it refuses is not published.
Who reviews it
A criminal defence lawyer licensed by the Law Society of Ontario reviews Remandly’s information. They were called to the bar in 2017 and have conducted more than 1,500 bail hearings. The reviewer is not named on the site, and will not be: what matters to a reader is the licence, the years and the volume, none of which needs a name.
They have handled about 7,100 files, including roughly 900 impaired driving, 750 assault (domestic, sexual and general), 700 theft under $5,000, 300 theft over, 500 fraud under $5,000, 250 fraud over, and 300 drug charges.
The lawyer reviews the standard above, and reviews new content in one batch every month. Every page carries one line:
“Written by Ali Sheikh, founder of Remandly (not a lawyer) · Published under a standard reviewed by an Ontario-licensed criminal lawyer, called to the bar in 2017.”
Anything that names a fee, an outcome, a client or a specific case is reviewed individually before it is published.
Where the facts come from
Facts come from primary sources: the Criminal Code and other federal and provincial law, court and government websites, and Legal Aid Ontario and Legal Aid Alberta. Each page shows the date its facts were last checked. Pages are rechecked when the law or a court’s practice changes.
Corrections
If something on this site is wrong or out of date, tell us: intake@remandly.ca, or text 289-367-7860. We check every report, and correct or update the page as soon as we have confirmed it. When a correction changes the meaning of a page, the page says so at the bottom, with the date.
If you need advice
General information cannot replace advice about your own situation. For that, speak to a criminal defence lawyer. If you cannot afford one, Legal Aid Ontario is 1-800-668-8258 and Legal Aid Alberta is 1-866-845-3425.
